[PLUG] generating emacs key sequences

This isn't really an answer but: "M-x query-replace-regexp" works, or
if it doesn't (it didn't for me in an xterm): "ESC x
query-replace-regexp" should.  Or, remap the command to a different
key-sequence your terminal can generate.
