Another tidbit to tickle the brain with:

Log of fsck -C -R -A -a
Sun Feb 10 12:30:46 2008

fsck 1.40.2 (12-Jul-2007)
/dev/sda5 has been mounted 24 times without being checked, check forced.
/dev/sda5: 14391/1310720 files (4.1% non-contiguous), 739448/2620595 blocks
fsck.ext3: Unable to resolve 'UUID=147d9d2f-f064-4efe-861b-31bd8b720da4'
fsck died with exit status 8

I noticed this when I booted into Ubuntu this morning. The UUID doesn't
seem to match to anything I saw in gathering the requested information
already posted.

Did the installation of Kubuntu change the UUID of /dev/sda5 aka /home?
