Even harder to "beat" is MS Works -- a database with only one table and 
no queries.  Incredibly simple, but a spreadsheet doesn't seem to fill 
the bill (Works DB allows you to view your table as a stack of cards, 
and print it in various simple ways.)  Access seems quite a bit 
different: worksDB also behaves like a spreadsheet, but has just a few 
database-ish features.

Even worse, *nothing* will read the format (not even anything in the 
msoffice suite IIRC.)

This is probably the trickiest bit in migrating my mother to Linux.

Suggestions?  Anybody been there and done that?

I played around with exporting files from worksDB and using OOo, but 
that seems a bit of a steep learning curve.
