Are you trying to manually install from the downloadable binary tar.gz?

have you tried symlinking from the bin dir. to the exe? eg: ln -s
/usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.12/firefox /usr/bin/firefox

What does 'which firefox' say after adding that dir to your path?
