Solution: use ffmpeg to convert the file to .flv before uploading it to Youtube.

I can make video clips in .mp4 format with VLC in Linux and upload them to Youtube. When I do so, however, the image looks somewhat blurred:

However, when Windows Movie Maker is used to make video clips, and they are uploaded in .wmv format, they look as they should. If anyone has used Linux applications to make Youtube videos, with satisfactory results, I would appreciate some advice. I like VLC, so if it can be used for that purpose, I might as well stay with it.
