Having received no responses from my local LUG on this problem I thought
I'd bounce it off you experts here and see if anyone has suggestions
about how to debug this one...
I recently installed Fedora Core 9 and let it load everything for server
and desktop. However the X11 server failed to start, so it booted up in
text mode. When I tried startx I got this error:
error setting MTRR (base = 0xe2000000, size = 0x05000000, type = 1)
Invalid argument (22)
[112] 640 x 480, 60Hz, 75Hz, 85Hz, 100Hz, 160Hz
[115] 800 x 600, 60Hz, 75Hz, 85Hz
[118] 1024 x 768, 60Hz, 70Hz, 75Hz, 85Hz, 100Hz, 130Hz
[11b] 1280 x 1024, 60Hz, 75Hz, 85Hz, 100Hz
(EE) SAVAGE(0): No valid modes found
error setting MTRR (base = 0xe2000000, size = 0x05000000, type = 1)
Invalid argument (22)
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.
Fatal server error:
no screens found
giving up.
xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): unexpected signal 2.
I checked wiki.x.org and found the page referencing the error "Screen(s)
found, but none have a usable configuration", but it said nothing about
the "error setting MTRR" problem, and I don't understand what it means
by "invalid argument (22)", either. Neither argument equals 22, nor are
there 22 arguments. I tried asking the Internet's oracle, but found no
relevant googlhits on these errors.
The monitor (which worked fine in FC6) is a NEC MultiSync 4DS.
Any ideas what I should try? Or configuration files to examine? I'm more
used to being a Linux user rather than an accomplished system administrator.
TIA,
- Bill Thoen
