I had a Jansport laptop backpack that fit a 15" PowerBook with room to
spare. It was relatively inexpensive (~$60), very durable, and had
plenty of additional space for books, gadgets, clean underwear, etc.
It doesn't appear to be available anymore, but it looks like Jansport
still has a few comparable models:
