[PLUG] Xubuntu Startup Fails

My wife's laptop runs Xubuntu-7.10. Now and then (very rarely) Xfce fails
to start the panel when X starts. In other distributions, a right-click on
the root window brings up a menu of available applications. This allows me
to select a virtual terminal and manually type 'xfce4-panel &'. This brings
up the panel and retains it in the session settings for the next time.

However, right-clicking on the root window brings up a limited menu. I
tried selecting the 'create launcher' option, and typing 'xterm' in the
command line, but the dialog box's 'OK' button remained greyed out. So, no
virtual console.

Do any of you ubuntu gurus have a suggestion on how to open a terminal so
I can manually start the Xfce panel?

Rich
