[PLUG] Cat 5e wiring

All,

I am trying to run cat 5 cable from my router to two other rooms.  I 
have the wire pulled, spliced together, and am having trouble making 
both cables work.  I have tried resplicing, new wire, and new ends for 
the wall plates.

I realize this isn't Linux related (except I run Linux in my house).  
Email me off list or on...just looking for some pointers.  Google turned 
up lots of books for sale. 

What trick of the trade am I missing here?
