Bedroom A has the modem and router. I wired a dual plate for telephone
and cat 5. Bedroom B (on the other side of the wall) I wired the same
with a wire through the wall. My research showed two wiring
possibilities for cat 5 (A & B). B seemed to be compatible with most
anything I could buy at the store, so I went with that. The original
install through the wall A to B worked no problem for several months.

I then added a wire up through the wall, across the attic, and down
another wall in the living room. Wired exactly the same. This is where
things went downhill.

Bedroom A works as a feed point and the living room outlet work when
hooked to my laptop. Each time I have respliced, replaced wire, or
replaced the plug at the end, bedroom B doesn't work.

I have all eight wires poked down into the plug per the color code on
the side of the plug. I bought Leviton plugs and wall plates at Home
Depot. The through the wall wire is appx. 2' long. The living room is
about 60' of wire away.
