If the card doesn't work for you with native drivers, you might want to
consider just replacing the internal card with one that has a decent
chipset.  If it's a mini-PCI card, this is typically very easy in
laptops and there's tons of cheap cards on eBay.  You could also use a
PCMCIA or ExpressCard adapter until Linux gets stable drivers for the
built-in.
