                    M-1625, actually

Ubuntu is mostly installed and set up. The Realtek 8187 is a
problem, though not as expected - there is an open source driver,
but there are apparently some issues between the driver and
Network Manager. I expect a future upgrade will fix that, my
sister won't be using the wireless in the near term, anyway.

The only other problem I've encountered so far is Real Player.
It works stand-alone, but there are problems plugging it into
Firefox 3. PDF and Java and Flash and Totem and all the other
stuff appears to be working.

Still remaining is setting up VMware. I would use the Ubuntu-
preferred VirtualBox, but I've already done VMWare on many
other machines, and I have tweaked vmdk images ready to install.

I expect to be bringing the laptop to the Clinic this Sunday
and finishing it off in the presence of other Ubuntees. I've
done a lot of work with Redhat distros, and BSD and SysV
before that; more exposure to the Ubuntu way of doing things
will help a lot.
