Moneydance is a great program (I use it), but it is personal finance
software, not tax software. You can use the categories to keep track
of tax-related spending and withholdings, but it does not inherently
provide any tax features. There is a free trial version. Note it is
Java under the hood, which is why it is cross-platform. The
Windows/OSX/Linux versions just have convenient launchers included.
There is a python interface and API to allow extensions, though I
haven't played with it much.
It is not free, but so far they have allowed free upgrades to newer
versions ever since I bought it.
