Webstart works for me on Ubuntu Intrepid. But I had problems with both
old applications like Matlab as well as Netbeans. The route I took was
to downgrade to libx11-6 1.1.1.1 (Gutsy, I think). See:

This apparently doesn't work if you have a Hardy or Intrepid X11... at
least it didn't work for me. Or, perhaps it does and I just didn't do
it right. I kept getting problems with libxcb.
