Yes, it was turned on. It is now muted.

However, I haven't been hearing the feedback whine for about the past
hour. It comes and goes. However, considering that I get the feedback
noise even with the computer completely disconnected from the receiver
and the receiver turned off, I wonder if turning off the mic in the
computer will make any difference. 

But I'll leave it turned off and see if it helps. Thanks for the
suggestion.
