[PLUG] Thunderbird, Ubuntu, IMAP, timeout

here is how to test ssl connections:
create a file with the following contents:
client = yes
output = /dev/tty
connect = imap.gmail.com:imaps
then run:
stunnel NAME-OF-FILE
you should see a standard imap header come back. if not, then you have
something interfering with the imaps traffic. i can get a connection from
my system using the above technique.
