To that list i'd add the Sager laptops based on Korean whitebox 
manufacturer Midern (the basic boxes are also filled out & sold by 
AlienWare and other high-end gaming machine retailers, for a higher 
premium). Great base hardware and option selections (display, video 
card, disk, ram, tv tuner, etc.), easily user-upgradable, decent 
warranty, and good customer service through 3rd-party online retailer 
XoticPC.

Best of all, you can buy them without an operating system!

i own 2 of 'em, one 4+ years old, the other just under 2yrs. The last 2 
or 3 releases of Ubuntu have worked nearly flawlessly, including 
hibernate/suspend and power management (though the older one has the 
usual ATI video driver issues).
