I realized that my dad has an IR thermometer gun thing, so I can
borrow it from him next time I visit. Thanks for the offer, though! (I
probably wouldn't have been able to give it up once I had it,
though....)  :)

I had the wireless card completely out and still had a problem. I
haven't done the same with the hard drive, but I will in a few minutes
just on the off chance it helps.

That looks like a very comparable laptop, specs-wise, to what I have.
But unfortunately it's not quite enough. I am required to purchase a
laptop next year for engineering classes, and there are some minimum
requirements that I will need it to meet. Dual core and 2GB memory are
a couple of those. (Though I assume because people might need them for
Vista.) So if I'm going to spring for a new laptop at all I'm going to
get a more current one cause I'll need it soon for that.
