And why should we care about this?  Call me cynical, but when 
something like this gets posted from a heretofore unknown email 
address, my astroturf-sense gets all tingling.

It's bad enough when slashdot.org starts reading like 
backslashdot.org, but when it happens to my local linux mailing list 
it's about more than I can handle.
