I use LaTeX beamer as well, and I create the presentations in LyX. But
I have not gone into the heavy detailed presentation creation work
flows with animation, etc. ... I just type stuff and import EPS or PDF
graphics made by other tools. The beamer / LyX interface chokes on
some simple things, and I refuse to dig deeper into the complexities
of LaTeX to just make slide shows. I find it frustrating and am
looking for something as easy to use as PowerPoint. :)

Don't get me wrong -- beamer is a masterwork by a computer science
genius (Till Tantau), who also created the "pgf-tikz" graphics
package. But for someone without extensive learning time on their
hands, I recommend simpler tools.

I've never met a happy clam. In fact, most of them were pretty steamed.
