It's there, just buried in the global Preferences panel. Go to
Configuration>Preferences... then select Display>Summaries. Near the
bottom of the page, in the Message List section, there's a line that
says "Displayed Columns" with an "Edit" button. Click on the button and
you'll be able to change the column ordering.

Now there I have no clue. Claws has never done anything like that here.
There isn't even a Gnome directory in my ~/.claws-mail directory. I'm
running Fedora 10, though, which might make a difference. I have run
SuSE, but I don't recall it creating such a folder there, either. :-(
I'm glad to hear that your thumb drive problem is cleared up. It's
probably a good idea to buy a spare, just in case. They do die, and
reformatting may have just masked an underlying problem. Or it could
have been gremlins, and the thing will keep going for years. :-)
