why do you think the laptop is 192.168.55.5 when it seems to think it is 
on 192.168.12.something?  that seems to confirm my theory that you have 
two networks running with nat going on.  make the changes i suggested 
earlier and i think you'll be set.  just make sure you get dhcp disabled 
on the linksys before you hook into the lan side or you'll have battling 
dhcp.
