This isn't going to help you much, but when I was screwing around with
this last autumn, I just built crosstools from the bog-standard source
tarballs.  I found instructions for building the cross-tools without
too much trouble, but I don't remember exactly where now.  I don't
recall that I actually confirmed that the crosstools worked (except to
use them to disassemble some firmware).  So, don't despair.  I think
generally you aren't finding "their" source code because they are just
using the standard gcc/binutils toolchain source.

Maybe someone who knows better will straighten me/us out.
