Speaking of openSuSE... Is it really open?

I have a customer that has been smitten by SuSE and wanted to use it for
some somewhat embedded software I was to write for them.

Being used to using something else (Slackware), I made my first openSuse
11.1 disk using the workstation nearest to me. Well, it wouldn't boot on
any other machine. I took it to the clinic at Free Geek to see if there
was a SuSE user who could show me how to get it to boot on another
machine. After several hours of attempts - for which I am grateful -
they also had to give up. I finally used the install disk to "repair"
the installation to get it to boot on another machine, that is now the
only machine it boot on.

Sort of reminds me of hardware locked software.
