Haha, yeah so I pushed/stretched the analogy a bit...But, it's not about
what's legal and what's not. It's about the intention to provide 
unencumbered/unfettered
access to your product. HW mfrs. are still closing off access to their 
work to protect their "IP".
Just because a hw mfr can't come up w. a foolproof way to close
access doesn't mean that it's "open" in any way, shape, or form. Heck, 
with most hw mfrs if you
break the seal, you void the warranty. Talk about breaking and 
entering... :-)
