this should be pretty easy to convert to a WP template, and i'd be happy
to do that. i'd also be happy to volunteer for ongoing maintenance. i'll
explain my take on WP momentarily. as i stay pretty on top of the
mailing list, with consent of the community, the relevant information
like meeting dates and topics can be transposed to the site w/ no need
to change current habits.

since there seems to be a general consensus that a calendar would be
beneficial, i'll start that next.

Denis: regarding the updating of content, i set this up so far so that
the changeable things (i.e. meeting info) are contained in a separate
txt file and included in the home page automagically. for automatic
notification of the upkeeper, i think the mailing list is probably good
for that.

regarding WordPress. it is a really nice CMS for getting things set up
quickly and making maintenance easy for groups that will be
co-maintaining. if an honest assessment of the likelihood of multiple
persons volunteering to help maintain and stick with it seems to merit,
i say go for it, if not, i'd sooner see a static site with the variable
content separated from page layout and managed by editing a few text files.

wordpress has a habit of slowing down after time, is subject to SQL
injection (though the WP team does an excellent job of trying to prevent
this), and is subject to occasional random MySQL corruption...

just some cons to bear in mind along w/ the benefits. thank you all for
your input, i'll send another update looking for review of the copy
after i've finished updating the last section and implementing the calendar.
