   More info:

   'lshw -C network' shows the Realtek chip for eth0 and all the other
details for the wired connection.

   'route -n' shows no routes.

   /etc/resolv.conf says "created by NetworkManager" but it's empty. I
suppose this is a good reason why the ethernet connection is not seen. I'll
try adding DNS addresses to it and add a default route.
