[PLUG] KPhotoAlbum crash

I have a consistent, reproducible crash (seg fault) of KPhotoAlbum when I
run Maintainance->Recreate Exif Search Database. I ran this Maintenance
item first after adding folders and files to my collection and getting the
message when starting KPA that it was necessary to do so. I have done many
things chasing this problem, but the status now is that I removed the new
folders and files from the collection, transfered from my backups the
files exif-info.db and index.xml (from a time prior to my recent use of
KPA).

Now KPA starts and appears to run OK, but it still crashes if I
run Maintainance->Recreate Exif Search Database. I found on
http://www.kphotoalbum.org/index.php?page=news this note: "New images was
not correctly inserted into the exif database (thanks to Bart Visscher for a
patch that fixes this.) Please rerun "Maintainance->Recreate Exif Search
Database" to ensure your database it working again."

I also observed that when a crash occurs the file exif-info.db gets
rewritten to be about 3KB, contains the text "SQLite format 3"; the good
file contains the text "This File contains an SQLite 2.1 database"

I tried to generate a backtrace which the crash handler thinks would be
useful, but have not been successful, even after over 2 hours of downloads
of debug files.

Testing this is complicated by the absence of complete documentation (there
are instructions as to where the docs are, but they are not there, at least
not functioning). Also, it appears that it is not possible to point KPA to
another folder to experiment using some test jpg files. Only on
installation can the folder name be given.

If anybody here is using KPA, I would appreciate it if you could
run Maintainance->Recreate Exif Search Database, look to see if SQLite2 or 3
is used, and offer any advice. I have a considerable amount of data entry
invested in this program, and I would hate to have to replace it from
scratch. When KPA is running, it is very convenient and friendly.

Thanks,
-Denis
