[PLUG] Problems with a Linux machine...

I have an old PII 300 system in a separate building the purpose of which
is to act as a wireless router and camera platform. Why a PII-300?
Don't care if it gets stolden. I use SCSI hard drives, a Cheetah 18 gig
and two Compaq 4 gig drives connected to an Adaptec 2940U2W. Trouble
is, the hard drives randomly drop. Anyone experience this problem that
knows of a solution?

Another question, a full blown computer seems like overkill. I want a
non intrusive indoor AP, possibly wireless cameras, and phone
capability. It should be possible to call through the network anyone
in the other two buildings and via a special code perhaps access an
outside line. The output of the cameras should be visible from anywhere
on the network. So, I'm looking at 8 locations for telephone.
Alternatively, being able to ring a bell remotely would be helpful.

Another problem I'm having, I have a USB connected APC ups that I'm
trying to connect via the latest version of NUT. I get kernel won't
release or something similar, permission denied errors. Obviously,
running a battery backup when the computer has local hard drives
is important.
