Sorry for the confusion. I have tried various things over the past 24
hours, thus the settings were always changing. Here is the current
setup (hope the ASCII art is clear):

	  Cable Modem
		    |
	  D-Link Router -- Linksys WRT54G
		    |
	 16-port switch
		    |
	     Wall jacks
	       / \
	      / \
	Laptop* Desktop

*Laptop lives in a mini-dock at home, hence connected to ethernet.

The D-Link router is set to 192.168.0.1, subnet mask 255.255.255.0,
DHCP server: Enabled, range -100 to -199. Route is 192.168.0.0.

Laptop is 192.168.0.102. Desktop is 192.168.0.165. I also have four
networked laser printers using other addresses in the 100 to 199
range, none currently turned on. The D-Link web based setup page sees
both the desktop and the laptop. It does not see the Linksys router.**

The Linksys router is connected from one of its switch jacks to one of
the switch jacks on the D-Link with a crossover cable. I can also
connect it to one of the jacks on the 16-port switch, which makes no
difference in the results.

The Linksys is set to 192.168.0.3, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, DHCP
server: Disabled. I have also tried setting it to 192.168.0.103, but it
made no difference. On its web setup page there is an Advanced Routing
tab with a button that says "Get Routing." Clicking on the button pops
up a window displaying the LAN route as 192.168.0.0, subnet mask
255.255.255.0. I take this to mean that it sees the D-Link. I copied
the addresses into the fields in the Advanced Routing tab.

The laptop and desktop can access the Linksys web based setup page over
the ethernet. Proof of this is that the desktop has no wireless at all,
but still brings up the Linksys setup page in Firefox.

**The problem no doubt lies in the fact that the D-Link does not see the
Linksys, hence does not give it IP addresses to pass to the phone. Yet
it is physically connected and both computers can access the Linksys
setup pages over ethernet. I think it's the D-Link that's being a brat,
not the Linksys. But I don't know how to convince it to play nice with
the Linksys.
