You might also try puting a few layers of electrical tape (or any tape
that has substantial thickness to it) over the write-protect swith
notch on the adapter.
What kernel module does the card reader on your laptop use? Some of
them offer the option of ignoring the card reader's write-protect
feature. E.g.,
$ modinfo sdricoh_cs
