Ken,

   Yes and yes. They're both the default from installation of
Slackware-13.37/x86_64 and on both machines /etc/rc.d/rc.nptd has the
execute bits turned on so it loads when the system boots.

   I'm thinking that I need to dig into the wicd code Real Soon Now ... this
week, anyway.
