And I love encouragement, it helps me know my efforts are helping,
and it encourages others to provide hardware reports as well.

Thanks!

BTW, I don't have the Seagate drive or the box handy, but the usb
id is 0bc2:50a5 Seagate RSS LLC, and the iProduct is GoFlex Desk.
( lsusb -v -v as root ).

Some Seagate GoFlex drives are only USB 2.0, buyer beware.

This drive works with both USB2 and USB3, and comes with a special
3 foot USB3 miniB (drive end) to A (computer end) cable that works
with both old and new standards. There are five extra pins on the
USB3 A plug, not connected for USB2, adding two ultra high speed
signalling channels for USB3.

The USB3 standard permits up to 16 foot cables, and PCH Cables in
Hillsboro (http://pchcables.com) has some 6 and 10 foot cables.
Pat also has some 15 foot A extenders, but those sound dubious
and error prone given the signal speeds involved.
