<sigh> no need to be insulted, or insulting.

I don't got the cash, or I wouldn't have been asking the questions in the first
place. And I didn't say it was a fancy app, I said it was mature.

Yeah, and the original Babylon-5 video was produced on an Amiga. So? I notice
the OpenShot people agree with me...

"In 2008...I realized immediately the lack of a video editor."

I wish them all the best. We can use some successful Linux software.

There's a lot of promising Open Source software that lasts as long as the
initial author stays interested. My drives are full of nice sounding
abandonware that had real potential. And some really nice commercial Windows
and Mac stuff, too, that didn't have a mature company behind it and didn't
survive. And now I'm stuck maintaining legacy systems because I have data tied
up in it.

And trust me, none of the Linux-based tools had decent support (if any) for
AVCHD back when I needed it. I notice Kdenlive still isn't at version 1.0 yet.
:-P

Cinelerra is probably the best Linux-based video editing system. I looked at
it. It was a long time ago, I don't remember why I decided against it, but I
had my reasons.

I know you don't believe me when I say I researched it, but I did. I just don't
let the fact that Linux is my system of choice prevent me from using something
else if I happen to think its the more appropriate tool.

If I was starting over today I might come to a different conclusion. But that
was then, and now I'm vested in that software and I'm not unhappy with it.

Well, don't get too smug - I have about 10 more years and a few more systems
on you. And in my case I just don't have the energy to always fiddle anymore.

Anyway, this was intended to be an OS-agnostic question about hardware. I'm
sorry it's degenerated into "Linux is better than Windows." I never should have
mentioned that this particular box wasn't running Linux.

I appreciate the constructive hardware-related comments.
