Marvin,

   Black and white laser printers are quite inexpensive. I bought a Brothers
on sale at Office Depot for $50 a few years ago (and since sold it). Watch
the office supply stores (or amazon.com) and you can replace the inkjet with
an inexpensive, single-purpose laser printer most of which are supported by
CUPS.
