Yes, sort of. "eSATA (e standing for external) provides a variant of
SATA meant for external connectivity."[1]  Unless the drive is going
to be housed in and powered from the system case, you want eSata.

Versatility.  Some include FireWire (1394) in addition to USB and eSATA.
