Hey John, I feel like I've seen your video problem before many times at free geek. Not sure if its a hardware problem. I'm leaning towards broken drivers but that depends on if you can get into the bios and grub.... If the 14.04 disc continues to work I would use it to chroot in and reinstall nVidia.
