hmmm I'm pretty sure I meant facto.

"PDF" is the de jure standard, Acrobat's special variety is the de facto
standard.

de jure means "by the rules" while de facto means "in fact" (implying
"despite the rules, this is the reality of the situation")

thankfully, this is changing, albeit slowly.
