   Somethin' wierd goin' on. I added another user and logging in produces the
same result: no directory, logging in with HOME=/.

   Very strange. I think I'll take off the rest of the day and try a third
clean installation tomorrow. The only packages I do not install are those of
KDE (other than the base and libs), and the games. Something must have
broken somewhere.
