Minimal: A short CROSSOVER ethernet cable (might be hard to find).
Better: An inexpensive 4-port switch and two short ethernet cables.
In either case you will need to assign IP addresses and netmask
manually. I.e.
PC 1 - 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0
PC 2 - 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0
The second option gives you the flexibility to have a 'real'
local network with 1 or 2 more systems.
