[PLUG] Sound Blaster Audigy Fx problem

I just put a Sound Blaster Audigy Fx in my machine. I now have no sound. 
I checked to make sure mute was off. I Googled as follows:

ubuntu 14.04 "sound blaster" "audigy fx"

One of the hits is:

It appears that something in that thread works, but I'm having trouble 
following it.

Does anyone have experience getting a Sound Blaster card of recent 
vintage working with Ubuntu 14.04?
