Re hardware failures: The video chip failed on my System76 Bonobo
Extreme, necessitating a new motherboard. Fortunately, it was still
under the one year standard warranty. They sent me a UPS label to ship
it to them at their expense, and they paid the return shipping. They
did the repair right away when they received it, but I was still out of
a computer for several days. I am very satisfied with the service.

I might add that I was not really out a computer at all. When I bought
the computer they offered several hard drive and SSD options. I wanted
a 512 GB SSD, but the biggest one they offered was 256 GB. So I ordered
it with a 1 TB hybrid drive as the sole drive. I bought a 512 GB SSD
from Newegg and installed / and /home in separate partitions on it,
leaving the hybrid unused. When I had to return the computer to
System76 I just took the SSD out, placed it in a USB carrier (under $20
at Fry's), and booted to it using my old Thinkpad. It ran much slower
than my slick new Bonobo Extreme, but everything was just as before -
all my programs, settings, etc. The Thinkpad didn't even flinch at the
video settings. I really learned a lesson from the experience. In the
future I will always have / and /home in separate partitions on an SSD
that I can just pop into a different computer and carry on as before.

I also had a different failure with my Bonobo Extreme. Being clumsy by
nature I managed to dump an entire liter of beverage into the keyboard.
Despite all the suggestions that I received here, there were several
keys that I couldn't get working again. I ordered a new keyboard from
System76, which they shipped right away. But when it arrived the box was
crushed. I took the keyboard out and it was S-shaped. I called System76
and they shipped a second one out right away. Instead of waiting until
I could ship the crushed one back they told me just to take some
pictures of it and the box and e-mail them to System76 so they could
present their claim to UPS.

All in all I would put System76 at the top of my list of Good People to
Do Business With.
