[PLUG] Century Link sales at the door

I ditched comcast for Centurylink in SE PDX. My 6 month promotion period
expired so now I'm paying full price - $150 a month for symmetrical
gigabit, including modem/router rental fee. I share this connection with
several others who live on the same property so it doesn't sting too bad.

Overall I've been pretty happy with it. The 'modem' connects to the box on
the outside of the house using a standard ethernet cable using PPoE
authentication, which is nice because you can use just about any router or
open source network software (like pfsense) without having to buy a modem
and wrestle with customer service to let you use your own stuff.

So far I haven't taken advantage of the fact that I basically have a data
center in my house, but I'm sure I'll come up with something :-)

Realistically speaking, there isn't much that can deliver content to you at
the speed you can receive it when you have gigabit, so the bottleneck has
just been moved upstream somewhere. But it's enough bandwidth that if you
want to, you can become a mini-ISP for your whole block.
