[PLUG] Virtual Box hard crashes desktop system

Why do you refer to my VB as upgraded?  The version I have (on both
machines) is 5.0.40_Ubuntu r115130.  I could not find this version at the
link you provided.  I guess I can uninstall and reinstall VB, but that
seems similar to "in case of problems, reboot"-type of approach.  I suppose
it is possible that a bit or two got flipped in the SSD and the installed
data is broken.  All the software on this machine were installed using the
Ubuntu package manager.  How does SW installed via another route (i.e., the
link you provided) work with the package manager?
