I'm a little unclear how capitalism is related here. If we didn't use it, what would we use that would somehow mandate that people use sufficiently diverse things to maintain a notion of safety?

We have lots of browsers, but they all have to interoperate to be relevant. Enter web assembly, the next way to deliver malware to every browser.
