[PLUG] Open read-only partition read-write

I should know how to do this, but I can't figure it out.

I have a 2GB SD card that came with a new BiPAP machine
(Philips-Respironics Dreamstation). I can only mount it read-only. It
is formatted FAT32. My software (SleepyHead) can import the data from
it, but I wish to add a small .xls file to it. I started by trying the
GUI Gnome Disk Manager, but it refuses to reformat or delete the
partition 'because it is mounted read-only.' I also tried Gparted GUI,
but got the same results. Either of these programs can mount/unmount the
partition, but regardless of whether it is mounted or not I cannot
delete the partition.

There is a possibly related issue. When I insert the card into the SD
card slot on my laptop nothing can see it, yet the slot works fine
with other cards. I have a couple SD card to USB adapters, and one of
them works, but not the other.

I haven't tried the command line yet, mostly because I don't know
commands for gparted. (Yeah, I could look them up, but if the GUI won't
do it, chances are I'll have the same problem at the command line.)

What am I missing?
