Dance with me, Russell. I just got back from rehab and made a network 
backup of /etc/* using scp.


Without any supporting scripts dd is just going to result in loss of 
data. It's a low level tool that is prone to failure if not handled with 
care. For this use case it probably wouldn't even work since it can't do 
network transfers.

If you had bothered to read the question, you would know that. So keep 
bragging about all the stupid things you do, I'll go make a list of all 
the wifi hotspots in Portland that are not trustworthy. Non-profits are 
run on attitude, and your attitude sucks.
