Well, my wife is happy with the Panasonic TC-42PX14 plasma TV we have, 
and not interested in upgrading.

The TV is from 2009, but doesn't have a built-in way to turn off over 
scan, or turn on under scan, whichever is the right term. I'll keep 
searching for xrandr examples and see if I can find something that will 
work.
