7,  Hire an expert who has helped many keep hardware running that uses
    ancient and unsupported non open source operating systems, and rather
    than tell him what cant be done, tell him what it is your trying to
    achive and what the hard and soft constraints are (budget, time, physical
    space, power, compatibility,  etc).

I tried to help early in this thread, but was not provided with answers
to questions, and lots of diversions so gave up.
