Thanks to the three of you for your advice. Here's what I tried:
-------------------------------
rsteff at ENU-1:~/Desktop$ sudo su -
[sudo] password for rsteff:
root at ENU-1:~# nvidia-settings
(nvidia-settings:7397): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: 10:52:52.323:
g_object_unref: assertion 'G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
ERROR: App profile parse error in
/usr/share/nvidia/nvidia-application-profiles-340.108-key-documentation:
'[' or '{' expected near end of file on <string>, line 1
** (nvidia-settings:7397): WARNING **: 10:52:52.477: PRIME: Failed to
execute child process “/usr/bin/prime-supported” (No such file or
directory)
** Message: 10:52:52.477: PRIME: is it supported? no
-------------------------------
It's looking like the driver installation isn't complete. My notes from
when I installed xubuntu on this machine say:
Menu > System > Additional Drivers
Found NVIDIA binary driver – version 340.108 from
nvidia-340(Proprietary, tested)
Selected that and clicked Apply Changes.
Since JJJ mentioned Ubuntu recently coming out with updated nVidia
drivers, I'll try that next.
Any other recommendations appreciated.
